Viaje de Ida y Vuelta // Round Trip is a collection of site specific installations aboard a decommissioned jetliner in Tijuana, México. Presented by artist friends Ander Azpiri (MX), Rizzhel Javier (US), Griselda Rosas (MX/US), Aren Skalman (US), and Chris Warr (US), in collaboration with the faculty and students of Instituto Tecnológico de Tijuana.
As you drive along Calle Pastejé through the neighborhood of Lomas Taurinas looking up the hill, you can see a stripped down Boeing 737 perched on the edge of the Instituto Tecnológico campus. The airplane is emblazoned with the fading colors and the partial logo of Avolar, a short-lived Tijuana budget airline. The aircraft was hauled in sections from a hangar across the valley and reassembled for use as an instructional laboratory for the students of the newly formed Aeronautical Engineering department.
Viaje de Ida y Vuelta // Round Trip seeks to foster dialogues not only between artists and the academic community, but also with the wider community, by presenting art generated within the physical context, while using innovative approaches to process and material exploration.
In these times of border discord, this binational collaboration Round Trip is aimed at continuing to foster the ongoing artistic dialogue within our region.

MEET THE ARTISTS
Ander Azpiri is a sculptor, virtuoso draftsman and micro-sculptor; has exhibited since the nineties in various spaces in Mexico, Spain, Germany, the United States, Colombia and England; has been a member of the National Creator System.
Rizzhel Javier elaborates poetic ethnography by means of the rescue and reinterpretation of the daguerreotype, but also manages an endless number of innovative techniques; her work has been extensively exhibited in Southern California. She is a recipient of the 2017 San Diego Art Prize.
Aren Skalman creates playful sonorities through sculptural machines driven by human interaction with space; has recently exhibited at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, San Diego Art Institute, Bread and Salt, Space 4 Art, SDSU Downtown Gallery, 1ShanthiRoad (Bengaluru, India) and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery.
Griselda Rosas constructs disturbing syncretic sculptures that are metaphors of political and historical-productive hegemonies. She has been invited to exhibit in esteemed spaces in the United States, Mexico and southern France; recently was selected in the edition of the Biennial of Florence and at the moment belongs to the National System of Creators.
Chris Warr is a sculptor who explores the human figure, the forms and scale of architecture and ornament, and the inherent properties of material; is a co-founder of Space 4 Art, San Diego, and his work has been exhibited at cultural centers and museums in the state of California.
