Since 2013, BRIDGE has been reigniting the joy in learning through a variety of low-cost do-it-yourself workshops, seminars' and events designed to rejuvenate the San Diego community. Programs are designed to grow interest in art-making outside of traditional contexts. BRIDGE serves as a platform for the community to create work, develop skills, learn new techniques and meet new friends. Our vision is to work in conjunction with local organizations that are interested in providing a creative boost in the existing programming.
Learn how to make a tintype in our outdoor darkroom with a group of photographers that love to camp and enjoy the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer us. A tintype is a one-of-a-kind image that will take you back in time to the Civil War photographers of the 1850s. The image is photographed directly onto a sheet of metal, in camera and on site.
BRIDGE
An international photography program that provides the youth of Banalo (Cavite, Philippines) an opportunity to practice their language and storytelling skills. Participants are encouraged to practice their literacy skills by speaking and writing about their photographs in English. Activities are specifically designed to engage their thinking about their identity, home and how they want to contribute to their community when they grow up.
A social engagement project that provides an inclusive space for communities to share stories about who they are and places they live. Participants from underrepresented communities make a unique one-of-a-kind toy that reflects who they are. Each drawing contributed to the project is transferred to fabric and sewn into a homemade toy for participants to keep. Give each one a hug to hear a story about the person and the place they live.
A workshop designed for the aeronautical students at the Tijuana Institute of Technology. Participants of this work produced images using objects and drawings that explore the design and capacity of a Boeing 757 airplane. The images the students created utilize the cyanotype process in efforts to connect them to the history of aeronautical design.
